Microphone Stands
It's important to ensure your stand is correctly set up to prevent damage to your microphone, or interference from vibration.
When setting up a microphone, you should start with the stand.
The most common microphone stands are tripods.
Fully extend the legs of the tripod first to ensure your stand has a solid base. Then extend the straight arm in the centre. Then you can extend the boom arm to the desire angle and length. Ensure this arm is extended over one of the legs, to stabilise the stand, ensure not to over-extend the arm!
Once you are confident that your stand is solidly in place, you can place your microphone inside the clip.
Storage:
For storage purposes, you want to compact the stand as much as possible, that means collapsing the arm, returning to upright, pulling the legs in.
Generally you can just lean them in the corner. If you have several stands, you can store them as in the picture below, in PVC piping.

This stand is set up well:
-
The tripod is fully extended, creating stability
-
The arm extended over one leg of the tripod
-
The arm is well balanced, and not over-extended

This stand is NOT set up well:
-
The tripod is not fully extended, and is uneven, creating instability
-
The arm is not extended over a leg
-
The arm is over-extended, with the added weight of a microphone it may overbalance
