Setting up a Microphone

There are several kinds of microphone holders. These simply screw onto the end of the microphone stand. The holder should be attached and adjusted before the microphone is placed inside.

A clip holds a single microphone. The angle of a clip is adjustable.

A microphone bar is used to hold multiple microphones.

Setting two condenser microphones at a 90 degree angle, as shown on the left, can be a useful way to record ensembles.

Condenser microphones can also be placed in shock mounts, which help reduce vibrations.

The set up on the right includes a pop shield. Shields can be used to prevent vibration or interference from the breath of a singer, or other disturbances.

It's important to ensure that your microphone is firmly attached to its holder to prevent it from falling out and potentially becoming damaged.

After your microphone is secured in place, you can plug it in to an amplifier or PA using an XLR cable. From here you can adjust your levels to enhance your sound.
